Hey, I'm Maggie Chang

I'm a Taiwanese lady who passionately explores the wonders of nature and loves capturing moments of inspiration through the lens, currently calling the UK home and juggling the mum life with two lovely daughters.

Now, let's rewind to the start of my tale. Back in 2002 to 2003, life hit me with a hefty setback, leading to a tough diagnosis of severe depression. In those years, I completely shut myself off in a dark corner, not keen on mingling, losing my sense of self-worth, and trust in people. Luckily, with the support of family and mates, I allowed myself to gradually move forward until I stepped out of the dark hole that had once pulled me in. It took a while, but I finally got my life back on track, although occasional feelings of self-doubt still popped up, making my emotions as unpredictable as a rollercoaster.

In my younger years, juggling between putting food on the table and academics, the former always took precedence. After graduating from school, I struggled to make a living, and my dream of soaking up knowledge had to take a back seat. However, in early 2006, I boldly quit my stable job, applied to a language school in London, bought a plane ticket, and chased my dream of knowledge without a second thought. At that time, my English proficiency was only at an elementary level, and I have no clue where the courage came from to embark on a journey to a completely different country. Although in the process of realizing my dream, I quickly met my husband, and we swiftly formed a family, welcoming our first child the following year. Once again, faced with the choice between family and the pursuit of knowledge, I chose family and embarked on the immigrant path without warning.

Here in the UK, both my husband and I are foreigners, without the support of family and friends. Adapting to the new life and culture was like taking care of a newborn, requiring a complete relearning of everything and filled with endless challenges. Three years later, my second child was born, and I entered the life of a full-time mum, revolving around the schedule of my children and partner. Gradually, I lost myself, began to disconnect from society, and my emotions became increasingly unstable, although I was unaware of it at the time. Drifting for ten years, I always thought it was just a brief stay in the UK until I finally accepted that I am a foreign wanderer.

In 2017, my husband accepted a long-term overseas assignment. My two beautiful daughters and I decided to stay in the UK, and suddenly I found myself becoming a pseudo-single parent. While adapting to this new life, I was diagnosed with a slipped disc, pressing on the nerves in my lower back, causing severe pain that significantly impacted my mobility and daily life. With limited mobility and various life pressures, I felt breathless. It was then that I realized the old, self-doubting me was unconsciously dragging me into a black hole again. This time, I stopped and constantly reminded myself not to close myself off in the darkness.

I started rehabilitation and regular exercise, helping me regain mobility and gradually return to normal daily life. I felt stronger physically, and happiness, long gone, began to return bit by bit. I started taking care of myself, learning to be kind to myself.

In early 2020, my husband concluded the overseas job opportunity and returned to the family. Meanwhile, the global Covid pandemic changed our accustomed way of life. During this period, the whole world seemed to shut its doors, and I couldn't travel to Taiwan to visit my family. Then, in the early morning of May 2021, I received a transoceanic call from my dad. However, it was a police officer on the line, informing me that they found my dad in shock by the river while fishing. Despite efforts at the hospital, he couldn't make it, leaving me devastated. Due to Covid, I couldn't return to Taiwan immediately and say my final goodbye to my dad, leaving me extremely heartbroken and self-blaming.

The departure of my beloved dad was a profound blow for me, but because I had already developed a routine of regular exercise and engaged in yoga, I worked hard not to fall back into that endless black hole. At this point, I had learned how to perceive my emotions, even though I wasn't yet fully acquainted with emotional management.

In 2022, as I contemplated that my two daughters were gradually reaching an age where they could start pursuing their own lives, I realized that the focus of my life seemed to lose direction. I wanted to find what I wanted to do, but I didn't know what I could do. It felt like I was standing at a crossroads without finding the direction to move forward. One day, in a conversation with a close friend, she told me she was learning hypnotherapy, discussing the connection between neuroscience and emotions, sparking a strong curiosity in me. I started searching for information and found the CPHT Solution Focused Hypnotherapy training school. In March 2023, I began the 10-month training, discovering that my long-standing dream of knowledge might come true this time.

In April 2023, I was diagnosed with a breast tumor. At that time, I didn't know if it was benign or malignant. However, because I had already started training in neuroscience, hypnosis relaxation therapy, and psychotherapy, I didn't feel worried, and it didn't affect my emotions. Unfortunately, in June, it was confirmed to be breast cancer. When I heard the diagnosis in the doctor's office, my mind went blank. Back at home, I calmed down, regained a stable and calm mindset, accepted the fact that I was sick, and contemplated how to cope with the impact of cancer treatment on daily life and work. At this time, I recognized that Solution Focused Hypnotherapy helped me calmly accept reality, face the terrifying treatment, and find small joys in everyday life at such moments. During this time, my clients provided me with tremendous support. I am very grateful for their trust, allowing me to grow with them, guiding them to achieve their goals. Therefore, I recognized the powerful force of this therapeutic tool, not only helping myself but also discovering that I could help those in need. This inspired me to share the motivation to explore the power of the subconscious and lead others to find a bright future.

In December 2023, after 10 months of training, I graduated and felt very proud of myself. I overcame many fears, allowed myself to step forward step by step, and officially became a qualified and registered Clinical Solution Focused Hypnotherapist and Psychotherapist. I finally achieved my dream that I had had since I was young. "YES, I did it!"

Life's journey is full of ups and downs, and we never know what tomorrow holds. But whatever happens, we can live in the moment, focusing on the moments that bring us happiness. I may not have a prominent background, but I have a sincere empathy, and I'm a very good listener. I can guide you to find your unique inner world and together achieve a bright future.

When facing difficulties, it's important to accept them, deal with them, and then let go of them. As the Venerable Master Sheng Yen said, "In life, we often encounter adversity. I often advise everyone to face it with courage, accept it, handle it, and let it go. This means that when you encounter any difficulties, challenges, or unfair situations, don't avoid them, because avoidance won't solve the problem. Only by taking responsibility with wisdom can you truly free yourself from the troubles.
